PDF Metadata Editor
See the hidden document properties of a PDF — title, author, software and dates — and change them or remove them before you share the file.
Result
Choose a PDF to see and edit its properties.
How to use this tool
- Choose a PDF. Its current properties appear in the form, with the creation and modification dates.
- Edit the fields, or choose Remove all properties.
- Select Save PDF and download the new file.
How it works
PDF properties are stored in the document information dictionary, and often again in an XMP metadata stream. The tool rewrites the information dictionary and removes the XMP stream so the two cannot disagree. Page content is not changed.
Example
Before sharing
A PDF exported from a word processor may show your full name as Author. Choosing Remove all properties clears the author, title, software and dates.
Privacy and limitations
- Your PDF is processed on your device and is never uploaded.
- Text, images, comments and form data inside the document are not changed — check those separately.
- Password-protected (encrypted) PDFs cannot be opened. Remove the protection in the program that created the file first.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the title matter?
Browsers and PDF readers show the Title property in the tab or window, and search engines may use it for PDFs published online.
Does removing metadata make a PDF anonymous?
It removes the document properties, but names can also appear in the content, comments or tracked changes.
