EXIF and Metadata Remover
Photos often contain hidden information — where they were taken, when, and on which device. See what your photo reveals and download a clean copy, without uploading it anywhere.
Result
Choose a photo to see and remove its hidden metadata.
How to use this tool
- Add a photo. The tool shows any camera details, date taken, editing software and GPS location it finds.
- Download the cleaned copy from the preview and share that instead of the original.
- JPEG and PNG files are cleaned losslessly; other formats are re-saved.
How it works
JPEG: the file is read as a series of blocks. Blocks holding EXIF and XMP (APP1), IPTC/Photoshop data (APP13), comments and other application data are removed. The image data, the JFIF header, ICC colour profiles (APP2) and Adobe colour information (APP14) are kept, so the picture and its colours are byte-for-byte unchanged.
PNG: text (tEXt, zTXt, iTXt), EXIF (eXIf) and timestamp (tIME) chunks are removed.
If a JPEG relied on its EXIF orientation flag, it is re-saved at 95% quality with the rotation applied, so it still appears the right way up.
Example
A photo with location
A photo containing GPS coordinates such as 40.44611, −79.98222 and the camera model is shown with a warning. The downloaded copy contains neither.
Privacy and limitations
- Photos are processed on your device and never uploaded, so your location is never sent to us.
- Removing metadata does not remove what is visible in the picture itself (faces, street signs, landmarks).
- Many social networks strip metadata on upload, but messaging apps, email and file sharing often do not.
Frequently asked questions
What is EXIF data?
Information saved inside a photo by the camera or phone: date and time, camera settings, device model and, often, the GPS location where it was taken.
Does removing metadata reduce quality?
Not for JPEG and PNG — only the metadata blocks are removed. Only photos that relied on an orientation flag, and other formats, are re-saved.
