Result

Type an expression or use the keypad. Press = or Enter to calculate.

How to use this calculator

  • Choose Degrees or Radians for trigonometric functions.
  • Type an expression such as sin(30) + 2^3 or build it with the keypad. Functions need brackets: sqrt(16), log(1000).
  • Press = or Enter to keep the answer and continue calculating with it. Recent results are listed below the calculator.
  • Implicit multiplication works: 2π, 3(4 + 1) and 2sin(30).

Formula

Order of operations: brackets, then functions and factorials, then powers (right to left, so 2^3^2 = 2^9 = 512), then unary minus (so -2^2 = −4), then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction.

  • log(x) is base 10 and ln(x) is the natural logarithm (base e).
  • Inverse trig functions return degrees in degree mode.
  • n! is defined for whole numbers from 0 to 170.

Worked example

Mixing trig and powers

In degree mode, sin(30) + 2^3 = 0.5 + 8 = 8.5.

Logs and factorials

log(1000) = 3 because 10³ = 1000, and 5! = 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 120.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Results are rounded to 12 significant digits, so tiny floating-point errors such as sin(180°) = 1.2 × 10⁻¹⁶ display as 0.
  • tan is undefined at 90°, 270° and so on, and negative numbers raised to fractional powers are not real numbers — both give a clear error. Use cbrt() for cube roots of negatives.
  • Complex numbers, matrices and calculus are not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Why does sin(90) give 0.894 instead of 1?

The calculator is in radian mode, where 90 means 90 radians. Switch to degrees to get sin(90°) = 1.

What is the difference between log and ln?

log is the base-10 logarithm (log 100 = 2). ln is the natural logarithm with base e ≈ 2.71828 (ln e = 1).

Is −2² equal to 4 or −4?

By the standard convention used here, the power is applied before the minus sign, so −2² = −4. Write (−2)^2 to get 4.
