How to use this tool

  • Add an image (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF).
  • Choose the format to convert to. For JPEG, choose the colour that replaces transparent areas.
  • Download the converted file from the preview.

How it works

Your browser decodes the original into pixels, draws them on a canvas and encodes them in the new format. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency; JPEG is lossy without transparency; WebP supports both lossy compression and transparency.

Example

A transparent logo to JPEG

A PNG logo with a transparent background converted to JPEG with a white background gives a JPEG with the logo on white — JPEG cannot store transparency.

Privacy and limitations

  • Conversion happens on your device; nothing is uploaded.
  • Converting a JPEG to PNG makes the file bigger without improving quality — detail lost to JPEG compression cannot be recovered.
  • Animated GIF and WebP files are converted using their first frame. Metadata is not copied.

Frequently asked questions

Which format should I use?

JPEG or WebP for photographs, PNG or WebP for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges or transparency.

Why is my converted PNG larger?

PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly. Photographs compress far better as JPEG or WebP.
