Password Generator
Generate strong, random passwords on your own device, with the length and character types you choose and an estimate of their strength.
Result
Choose options and select Generate.
How to use this tool
- Set the length with the slider (16 or more is recommended) and choose the character types.
- Tick Avoid look-alikes if you will need to type or read the password.
- Each password has its own Copy button. Select Generate for a new set.
How it works
Every character is chosen with your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator (Web Crypto), using rejection sampling so each allowed character is equally likely. At least one character from each selected type is included, then the order is shuffled.
Strength is estimated as entropy: length × log₂(number of possible characters). Each extra bit doubles the number of guesses an attacker needs.
Example
A 20-character password
With upper case, lower case, numbers and the 25 symbols there are 87 possible characters: 20 × log₂(87) ≈ 128 bits — far beyond brute-force guessing.
Privacy and limitations
- Passwords are created in your browser and never sent to our server or stored.
- Some websites restrict which symbols are allowed; untick Symbols if a site rejects the password.
- The strength estimate assumes the password is random and not reused.
Frequently asked questions
How long should my password be?
At least 12–16 random characters for most accounts, and longer for important ones such as email and your password manager.
Is it safe to generate passwords online?
This generator runs entirely in your browser and the passwords never leave your device. Store them in a password manager rather than reusing them.
