How to use this calculator

  • The from date defaults to today. Enter or change both dates.
  • Tick Include the end date to count both the first and last day — for example a hotel stay counted in calendar days, or an event that runs from one date to another inclusive.
  • Past and future dates both work. If the to date is earlier, the count runs backwards.

Formula

Each date is converted to a day number and the difference is taken:

days = to date − from date

With Include the end date ticked, one day is added: days = to date − from date + 1.

Weekdays are counted over exactly the same set of days, treating Monday to Friday as weekdays.

Worked example

1 January 2024 to 1 January 2025

2024 is a leap year, so there are 366 days between the dates (367 if the end date is included).

Of those 366 days, 262 are weekdays and 104 are weekend days.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Public holidays are not excluded because they vary between countries and regions.
  • Saturdays and Sundays are treated as the weekend.
  • Times of day are ignored.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include the end date?

Leave it unticked to count elapsed days (nights between dates, or the time until a deadline). Tick it when both the first and last days count, such as a conference that runs from Monday to Friday — that is five days, not four.

How do I count business days?

The weekdays figure counts Monday to Friday. Subtract any public holidays that apply in your country.
