Add Page Numbers to PDF
Number the pages of a PDF — “1”, “Page 1 of 10” and other styles, in any corner — and optionally skip a cover page.
Result
Choose a PDF and how the page numbers should look.
How to use this tool
- Choose a PDF, a number format and a position.
- Change First number if numbering should start at another value, and tick the option to skip the first page for a cover.
- Select Add page numbers and download the result.
How it works
Numbers use the standard Helvetica font, placed a margin of at least 18 pt (about 6 mm) from the page edge. With the cover page skipped, page 2 receives the first number, and “of {total}” counts only numbered pages.
Example
Report with a cover
A 10-page PDF with Page 1 of 9, first number 1 and the cover skipped shows “Page 1 of 9” on page 2 through “Page 9 of 9” on page 10.
Privacy and limitations
- Your PDF is processed on your device and is never uploaded.
- The standard PDF font supports Latin characters only, so the formats are in English.
- Numbers can overlap content that reaches the page edge.
- Password-protected (encrypted) PDFs cannot be opened. Remove the protection in the program that created the file first.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering at a different number?
Yes — set First number, for example to 5 if this document continues another one.
Does it change the existing content?
No. Numbers are added on top; the original content is not re-compressed.
