Cut at a word boundary.

Type a title to turn it into a URL slug.

How to use this tool

  • Type a title, or paste many titles — one per line.
  • Choose the separator, an optional maximum length, and whether to lowercase.
  • Tick Keep non-Latin letters for slugs in Chinese, Arabic or other scripts.

How it works

Accented letters are reduced to their base letter (é → e), special letters are spelled out (ß → ss, œ → oe), Cyrillic and Greek are transliterated (Привет → privet), & becomes “and”, and apostrophes are dropped. Everything else that is not a letter or digit becomes the separator, with repeats and leading or trailing separators removed. A maximum length cuts at the last whole word.

Example

A title with accents

“Héllo Wörld & Friends: Ünïcödé!” becomes hello-world-and-friends-unicode.

Privacy and limitations

  • Everything runs in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
  • Transliteration of Cyrillic and Greek uses a simple common scheme; official standards differ slightly between languages.

Frequently asked questions

Hyphens or underscores?

Hyphens. Google treats hyphens as word separators, while underscores join words together.

How long should a slug be?

Short and descriptive — usually 3 to 6 words. Remove filler words if the title is long.
