Paste a URL to see its parts.

How to use this tool

  • Paste a URL. If it has no scheme, https:// is assumed.
  • See the protocol, host, port (with the default port when none is given), path, query string and fragment.
  • Query parameters and path segments are listed in decoded form, including repeated parameters.

How it works

The URL is parsed with the browser’s standard URL parser (the WHATWG URL Standard), the same rules browsers use when following links. The normalised URL shows how browsers will interpret it, for example with an internationalised domain name converted to its xn-- (Punycode) form.

Example

A URL with parameters

https://example.com:8443/a%20b/c?q=caf%C3%A9&tag=1&tag=2#top gives host example.com, port 8443, path segments a b and c, parameters q = café, tag = 1 and tag = 2, and fragment #top.

Privacy and limitations

  • Everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste is uploaded or stored.
  • Passwords embedded in URLs are never displayed, only flagged.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fragment?

The part after #. Browsers use it to scroll within a page; it is not sent to the server.

Why does my domain show xn--?

Domains with non-ASCII letters are stored in Punycode. Check such domains carefully, as look-alike characters are used in phishing.
