Result

Paste two versions of a text to see what changed.

How to use this tool

  • Paste the original version on the left and the changed version on the right.
  • Added lines are highlighted green with +, removed lines red with −. Line numbers for both versions are shown.
  • Tick Ignore whitespace or Ignore case to skip trivial differences, or Show changed lines only for long texts.

How it works

The tool finds the longest common subsequence of lines between the two texts — the largest set of lines that appear in both, in the same order. Everything else is reported as removed (only in the original) or added (only in the changed text). Matching lines at the start and end are skipped first, which keeps large, mostly similar texts fast.

Example

Four lines

Original: a, b, c, d. Changed: a, c, d, e.

Result: b removed, e added, three lines unchanged.

Privacy and limitations

  • Both texts stay in your browser and are never uploaded.
  • Comparison is line by line; a single changed word shows as one line removed and one added.
  • Very large, completely different texts may exceed what the browser can compare.

Frequently asked questions

Can I compare code?

Yes. Line-based comparison works well for code and configuration files. Tick Ignore whitespace to skip indentation changes.

Can I compare Word or PDF files?

Copy the text out of each document and paste it in. Formatting is not compared.
