Rotate and Flip Image
Fix sideways photos, straighten a tilted horizon or mirror a selfie — rotate by 90° steps or any custom angle and flip in either direction.
Result
Choose an image to rotate or flip.
How to use this tool
- Add an image and choose a rotation, or Custom for any angle (positive is clockwise).
- Tick Flip horizontally to mirror the image, or Flip vertically to turn it upside down.
- For custom angles, choose a fill colour for the empty corners, or tick Transparent corners to save a PNG.
How it works
The canvas is sized to hold the whole rotated image: width = |w·cos θ| + |h·sin θ| and height = |w·sin θ| + |h·cos θ|. The image is drawn around its centre with the rotation and flip applied. Rotations by 90°, 180° and 270° keep every pixel.
Example
Straightening a horizon
A 4000 × 3000 photo rotated by 3° needs a 4152 × 3205 px canvas; the small triangles in the corners are filled with your chosen colour. Use the Image Cropper afterwards to trim them.
Privacy and limitations
- Processing happens on your device; nothing is uploaded.
- Arbitrary angles require resampling, which slightly softens the image; 90° steps do not.
- Photos are shown the right way up using their orientation information before rotating.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my photo look sideways on some websites?
Phones often save photos in one orientation and add a flag saying how to rotate them. Some sites ignore the flag. Rotating and re-saving here bakes the correct orientation into the pixels.
Is flipping the same as rotating 180°?
No. Rotating 180° turns the image upside down; flipping vertically mirrors it top to bottom, which also reverses left and right of text.
