Result

Paste CSV or JSON to convert it.

How to use this tool

  • Choose CSV → JSON or JSON → CSV and paste your data.
  • The delimiter is detected automatically (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe), or choose one.
  • For CSV → JSON, untick First row contains column names to get arrays instead of objects, and untick type conversion to keep every value as text.
  • Copy the result or download it as a file.

How it works

CSV is read following RFC 4180: values in double quotes may contain the delimiter, line breaks and doubled quotes ("" for "). Each row becomes an object keyed by the header row; duplicate or empty column names get unique names.

With type conversion on, plain numbers become JSON numbers and true/false/null become their JSON values. Codes with leading zeros, such as 007, and integers too large for JavaScript stay as text.

For JSON → CSV, every key found in any object becomes a column, and nested objects or arrays are written as JSON text.

Example

CSV with quotes

"Smith, J",42,007,true under the header name,age,zip,active becomes {"name": "Smith, J", "age": 42, "zip": "007", "active": true}.

Privacy and limitations

  • Everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste is uploaded or stored.
  • Up to about 5 MB of text.
  • Excel uses semicolons in some countries; the delimiter is detected from the first line.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my ZIP code a string?

Values with leading zeros are kept as text so 007 does not become 7. Untick type conversion to keep every value as text.

Can I open the CSV in Excel?

Yes. Use a semicolon delimiter if your Excel expects semicolons (common in Europe).
