How to use this calculator

  • Enter your pay and the period it covers.
  • Adjust hours per week, days per week and paid weeks per year to match your job.
  • All other pay periods are shown. Figures are before tax.

Formula

Pay is converted to an annual figure, then divided by the number of each period in a year:
- Hourly: hours per week × weeks per year
- Daily: days per week × weeks per year
- Weekly: weeks per year; every two weeks: weeks ÷ 2
- Twice a month: 24; monthly: 12

Worked example

Hourly to annual

25 an hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = 52,000 a year, or 4,333.33 a month.

Annual to hourly

60,000 a year ÷ (40 × 52) = 28.85 an hour.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Gross pay before income tax, social security, pension and other deductions.
  • Overtime, bonuses and allowances are not included.
  • Whether paid holiday counts as paid weeks depends on your contract.

Frequently asked questions

Is bi-weekly the same as twice a month?

No. Every two weeks is 26 payments a year; twice a month is 24, so each semi-monthly payment is slightly larger.

How do I account for unpaid leave?

Reduce “paid weeks per year”. For example, two weeks unpaid means 50 paid weeks.
