How to use this calculator
- Enter the amount — fractions like 1/2 and 1 1/4 work.
- Choose the units to convert from and to.
- For cups ↔ grams, choose the ingredient.
Formula
Volumes convert using US measures (1 cup = 236.59 ml, 1 tbsp = 3 tsp). Volume ↔ weight uses typical grams per cup for each ingredient, such as 125 g for flour and 200 g for granulated sugar.
Worked example
Flour and sugar
1 cup of all-purpose flour ≈ 125 g; 100 g of sugar ≈ ½ cup.
Assumptions and limitations
- Everything runs in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
- Densities assume spooned and levelled cups. Weighing gives the most consistent baking results.
Frequently asked questions
Are US and UK cups the same?
Not quite: a US cup is 236.6 ml and a metric cup (used in the UK, Australia and Canada) is 250 ml. Choose the one your recipe uses.
Why does a cup of flour weigh less than a cup of sugar?
Flour is lighter and fluffier, so the same volume holds less weight. That is why grams depend on the ingredient.
